FLEET FEET | MAKING THE DIFFERENCE MONTCLAIR FUND FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE With education dear to our hearts, not only for disadvantaged children in South Africa (supported by the Lesedi Project), but also for the children of Montclair who will be our future leaders, a portion of your donation will go towards the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE). Founded in 1991, their mission is to generate private funding and community support for Montclair Public Schools and to enhance the education experience of all of Montclair's public school students. Once a tiny organization distributing a handful of grants, MFEE has grown to become a vital resource for improving public education in Montclair with three primary focuses: Grants Programs, Initiatives, and Events. MFEE operates four grants: Educational Excellence Grants, Greenwald Professional Development Grants, Turner Social and Emotional Learning Grants, and Magnet Enhancement Grants. Montclair Public Faculty are awarded grants for innovative projects and activities that will directly impact the classroom, enhance students' skills, knowledge, safety, and well-being, and benefit the entire school. A second focus of MFEE is to dedicate their time on initiatives covering district-wide needs such as after-school tutoring, arts education and under-resourced school libraries. They work with a wide-range of individuals and organizations in Montclair to develop these initiatives. Last but not least are fundraising events which not only raise money but generate community-wide support for and invovlement in Montclair Public Schools. LESEDI PROJECT Balega, a key vendor partner of Fleet Feet, Incorporated, is an international company with its roots in South Africa. Their focus is on providing top of the line performance socks to the specialty running market. Balega prides itself on the fact that all of their products are race developed and tested at their South African production facility. Their development team is made up of genuine athletes who regularly compete in monumental events such as the Comrades Marathon. All of Balega's running socks incorporate a hand linked seamless toe, eliminating abrasion across the top of the foot. They also knit an extra deep heel pocket ensuring that their socks fit the foot properly and won't slide down during your run. Balega has partnered with Fleet Feet Sports to support the Lesedi Project. This program was developed to give back to the South African culture and community on which Balega relies on. A portion of the money you spend on every Balega sock purchased in a Fleet Feet store will go towards the Lesedi Project, supporting the Ethembeni Scholarship Fund, each year. The Ethembeni School, nestled in the heart of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and situated on the legendary Comrades route, is home to some 300 disabled and disadvantaged children. Ethembeni means "place of hope" and that is exactly what it has become for these children who live and study there. Playing a special role in South Africa's premier running event, the Comrades Marathon, each year the children create beadwork necklaces. The necklaces are sold at the marathon expo and many runners wear them during the race as a sign of support, Only receiving partial funding from the state, the school relies more on private benefactors and extended community. The intention of the scholarship fund is to provide mone for the education of the children of Ethembeni.
